Peek & Cloppenburg Department Store Lübeck

This mixed-use project comprises a four-storey department store, a five-storey office building and retail space. The building forms one edge of Lübeck’s historic market place. This important contribution to the city’s urban fabric is part of a development plan aimed at rectifying the damage caused by post-war building programmes.

The concrete roof shells define a series of bays that are further expressed by the articulation of the supporting columns within the façade. The building’s exterior consists of glazing and vertical terracotta ribs that form screens between the columns. The screens mitigate solar gain and filter the views between inside and outside.
