Cologne Trade Fair 3.0
International Competition Cologne Trade Fair 3.0
The Koelnmesse 3.0 project intends to modernize the southern halls, improve transport routes, parking. The project also includes a new hall 1plus, a CONFEX® hall for new formats of Conference and Exhibition and a new entrance terminal for the southern halls as a modern and functional connection and access route. ingenhoven architects´ design gives the Cologne Trade Fair a new structural dimension and focusses on transparency, openness and communication.
The terminal connects old and new areas of the trade fair with a large and bright interior which will become the new heart of the extended fair. The 427-meter-long exhibition space is covered by a partially transparent and translucent roof, which is supported by a sequence of parabolic structural elements. One of the characteristic parabolic columns shall be cut out on the east side. The new main entrance to the Trade Fair is supposed to be removed behind and formed with a spacious and weatherproof forecourt.
A partially transparent glass façade is planned for Hall 1plus. The façade provides the exhibition space with natural light and offers a broad view towards the Rheinpark. Hall 1plus is connected to the new CONFEX®-hall via the terminal. Due to its separate spacious foyer on the southern side, the CONFEX®-hall can also be used as an independent event location.
The parking space below the CONFEX®-hall and hall 1plus offers a weather-proofed area and can be used for exhibition formats or as event space. The area is connected directly to the terminal via the west entrance.
