Gira Production Building Radevormwald
The Gira company’s Radevormwald location houses its main administration offices and the production facilities for their range of intelligent-building technologies. The acquisition of a neighbouring site presented the opportunity to create new production areas by expanding the existing plant. The result was an elegant pair of fully-glazed structures, approximately 70 metres in length, set parallel to one another.
The project commenced with an in-depth development study. Working with the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute, plans were drawn up to determine the most advantageous use of the available area so as to optimise production processes and allow for future expansion.
An important characteristic of the two buildings is that no distinction is made between production and administration areas. All workspaces share the same high-quality conditions offering natural light, transparency and exterior views along with optimised workflows and circulation paths. The floor plans contain no columns, thus allowing a maximum of planning flexibility. The gap between the buildings is glazed over and houses the connecting stairs and interior courtyards.
Special attention was given to minimising energy consumption. The heat produced in production, especially that from plastics processing, is incorporated into the plant’s energy system. Louvres help control the natural ventilation. Only the rooms in the interior of the buildings require additional mechanical ventilation.
