Stuttgart Main Station: Work on the shell roof begins
On Saturday, 6-30-18, the concreting of the first section of the shell structure of the new Stuttgart Main Station designed by ingenhoven architects will begin.
The roof of the underground station is an optimized structure supported by 28 chalice-shaped columns. It is a white concrete structure that is mainly designed for compression and with minimum construction depth. The columns have light eyes that guide natural light into the underground station. In addition, there are 14 so-called remaining chalices, one of which will be filled with concrete this weekend. The successful concreting of this column is another crucial step in the execution of the unique biomorphic station concourse.
