New construction or renovation: What will happen to the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt? Together with the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, the Cultural Department of the City of Frankfurt organizes a series of discussions. It serves as a supporting program for the DAM exhibition "All the world’s a stage? Comparing European Theatres, Operas and Concert halls".
Three days before the official opening of the exhibition, the kickoff-event of the discussion series "Opera and Theater Buildings - Experiences from other Cities" will take place. In the course of this, Christoph Ingenhoven will report on his experience with the renovation of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus on the podium.
ingenhoven architects are responsible for the renovation of the Schauspielhaus theater in Düsseldorf and are working in close cooperation with the Insitut für Denkmalschutz (Institute for listed buildings). The Schauspielhaus was built according to the plans of the architect Bernard Pfau from 1965 to 1970, and forms together with the Dreischeibenhaus, one of the most important ensembles of post-war architecture in Germany.
The building was added to the list of monuments in March 1998, due to its architectural, historical and urban significance, although the structural condition of the house no longer corresponds to that of a modern theater. The building must be modernized both internally and externally, special attention will be given to the spatial and atmospheric quality experienced by visitors and employees.
The planning area includes roof and façade renovation, in addition to the renovation of all interior public spaces, lighting and furniture design included. The reopening of the Schauspielhaus is planned for mid-2019.
Further experts on the podium will be Jette Hopp of Snøhetta und Detlef Junkers of PFP Planungs GmbH. Jette Hopp will talk about the new opera house in Oslo and Detlef Junkers about the project
new Kraftwerk Mitte Dresden.
