Town Hall Freiburg and Marina One: Nominated for DAM Prize 2019

Since 2007, the DAM Prize for Architecture in Germany has been awarded annually to outstanding buildings in and from Germany. For the award, the museum nominates—since 2016 also considering proposals of the chambers of architects—100 remarkable buildings or ensembles.

We are pleased to be among the nominees for the year 2019 with two of our projects.

The first nominated project is the high-rise complex Marina One in Singapore. It is to date the largest project by ingenhoven architects and was officially opened on 15th January 2018. As an international role model for living and working, Marina One makes an innovative contribution to the discourse on mega-cities, especially in tropical regions, which, in the context of increasing population and climate change, face enormous challenges.

Furthermore, our project town hall in Freiburg im Breisgau has been nominated. In November 2017, it was opened with administration center and day nursery. The new Freiburg Town Hall is the first net-surplus-energy building of this category worldwide. During the course of the year, the building generates more energy than it consumes. The excess energy is fed into the city grid. In accordance with the strict criteria of the PassivHaus standard, the primary energy demand of the town hall for heating, cooling, ventilation, and hot water supply is as low as 55 kilowatt hours per square meter per year.

An expert jury will make a selection of the 20 shortlisted buildings among the nominations. In an intensive discussion, these buildings of the shortlist will eventually be used to choose three or four buildings for the final round. At a second jury meeting, the finalists will be touring and the prizewinning project will be announced.

The announcement of the award winner, the award ceremony and the opening of an exhibition on the buildings will, as always, take place at the end of January in the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt am Main.
