Stuttgart Main Station: chalice columns completed
This Wednesday, the project reached a significant milestone: the last of 28 chalice columns was successfully cast, concluding the process, which started in 2018 with the very first element taking shape. This event marks an important step towards completing the extensive construction work on the station building, which will become the interface between the old and new heart of the city and the starting point for the further urban development.
The elegant support elements made of white exposed concrete form the roof of the new underground station concourse. Each chalice column features an upward-opening design and is crowned with a circular skylight crafted from steel and glass. This ingenious configuration facilitates the ingress of natural daylight, illuminating the platforms below.
