polis Award 2019: ingenhoven architects win 1st price for Kö-Bogen II

On May 15, ingenhoven architects were selected for the polis Award in the category "Reactivated Centers" for Kö-Bogen II in Düsseldorf. They accepted the award together with their clients of CENTRUM in Düsseldorf and the B&L Group from Hamburg.
The award ceremony took place at this year's polis Convention—the trade fair for urban and project development—on the Areal Böhler in Düsseldorf. With their first placement, ingenhoven architects were able to prevail against the designs of renowned architectural firms such as David Chipperfield Architects and kadawittfeldarchitektur. The polis Award honors a project that CENTRUM and the Hamburg B&L Group are realizing as a joint venture. The two-part commercial and office building, Kö-Bogen II, is being built at Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz in the direct vicinity of the two architectural icons of the Dreischeibenhaus and the Düsseldorf Theater. With its variations in height, the new building by ingenhoven architects reflects the neighboring buildings and provides an open view to the listed standalone buildings and the Hofgarten park behind. The roofs and facades of the ensemble feature extensive planting with hornbeam hedges and grass, thus creating a new green heart in Düsseldorf’s inner city. Creating sustainable architecture is a self-commitment for ingenhoven architects. As a consequence of this, Kö-Bogen II already received the highest award level DGNB Platinum as a pre-certificate.
Each year, the polis Award honors dedicated and collaborative solutions to the ever-present challenges of modern cities. This year, the price was awarded in five categories. The Kö-Bogen II project convinced the jury in the "Reactivated Centers" category, as it is creating an important urban impulse for Düsseldorf by creating a new public space of the highest quality and liveliness between the park, the theater and the shopping city.
