Construction work starts for Main Station Stuttgart

Four and a half years after construction startet for the megaproject Stuttgart 21, excavators will start today with excavating the building pit of our new underground main station. This official construction start symbolizes the end of a long lasting uncertainty after 17 years of planning.

Christoph Ingenhoven explains three important reasons for the underground main station: The inhabitants of Stuttgart get their valley back, which was disturbed by at least 50% of traffic; the barrier to the north is not a problem any longer and all forms of transport were linked together. Nobody needs to be concerned about how the main station will look after completion: “It`s my most important project – my baby and I won`t do any harm upon this major project.”, says Christoph Ingenhoven.
