Stuttgart Main Station: Expert calls presented column “a work of art”
Work on the Main Station in Stuttgart is progressing. Part of a sample column - so called Kelchstütze - was presented on 13 October for the first time – 70 cubic meters of curved reinforced concrete. In recent weeks, the sample was tested in terms of its strength, color and surface structure. A total of 28 of such columns will be supporting the roof of the new train station, 27 of them have light eyes to let in natural light.
Bernd Hillemeier, chairman of the advisory board of the project Stuttgart 21, called the column "a work of art“ and its execution "a masterpiece by the construction company" Züblin. Hillemeier is Professor Emeritus at the Technical University of Berlin and an expert in the field of concrete construction.
