Wooden silo: Commendation "2017 Award for Good Buildings"
During a prize-giving ceremony for the "2017 Award for Good Buildings" on 14 December at the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf, the "Wooden silo at Plange Mühle Campus" project received a commendation from the German Association of Architects (BDA), Düsseldorf. The jury’s verdict: "In the case of the change of use of the listed Plange Mühle grain silo to form an office building, the architects have succeeded in implementing a transformation that uses the potential of the old structures to create extremely attractive working environments, in terms of space and sense perception, the qualities of which exceed common standards. Existing and new structures were juxtaposed with great creativity and care. […] The transformation was particularly successful."
The conversion and refurbishment of the former grain silo on the Plange Mühle Campus in Düsseldorf was completed at the end of 2016. ingenhoven architects transformed the wooden silo dating from 1906 into a modern loft-style building that today is commercially used by companies in the fashion and media industries.
All submitted projects can be viewed at an accompanying exhibition at the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf until 2 January 2018.
