Köbogen 2 construction started
The construction of the Project Köbogen 2, Düsseldorf, started in May 2017. The preparations for the facade greening, which consists of five kilometers of hornbeam hedges, are already running on high tranches.
The Hofgarten in Dusseldorf is an historic park of Maximilian Weyhe. As a result of 1960’s transportation planning the link between park and innercity was severred, making the park hard to reach. Through demolition of the elevated road and the construction of a tunnel for vehicles, in addition to an underground cleared the way for a new structural arrangement of Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz. The Köbogen 2 comprises of two buildings, which interact with the public space and address differing building heights in the immediate area. The six-storey office and commercial building , featuresbevelled facades, forming a valley-like situation. This provides a clear visual link between itself, the Schauspielhaus (theater) and Dreischeibenhaus, two listed examples of post-war architecture. Thanks to its green design, the building contributes to creating a positive microclimate and further integrates the square and theater into urban life.
