Milestone in Stuttgart: The first parabolic concrete column is completed
Recently, the first parabolic structural element was constructed on the site of the new main station in Stuttgart. The element has been erected as a test to ensure optimal structural performance before the 28 main columns will be constructed. The columns are made of a specially manufactured white concrete. The unusual form of the structural element has never been produced before. It is the result of a cooperation between Christoph Ingenhoven and Frei Otto, the founder of the Institute for Lightweight Structures. Since 1997, ingenhoven architects has been entrusted with planning Europe´s biggest infrastructure project.
