“Megacities – cities out of control” Panel Discussion
Two hundred years ago only 3% of the global population resided in an urban setting. Today, the rate of migration to the urban environment is increasing with over 50% of the global population now residing in the city. This trend has resulted in the megacity being regarded as engines of global change, but they are also characterized by social inequality and environmental pressures. Is this trend towards urbanization manageable in terms of equality and quality of life and what can we learn from the continuing growth of the megacity?
A panel discussion with Christoph Ingenhoven, Susanne Heeg (Prof. of Geographical Urban Research, University of Frankfurt / Main), Peter Herrle (Prof. of Architecture and intl. Urban Development, TU Berlin), Achim Hütten (Mayor of Andernach), moderated by Ranga Yogeshwar and Johannes Büchs, will take place this evening.
