Peter Sloterdijk in conversation with Christoph Ingenhoven: "Theater as a public space of the city society"
In conversation with architect Christoph Ingenhoven - responsible for the renovation of the Schauspielhaus theater – philosopher Peter Sloterdijk discusses the topic "Theater as a public space of the city society". Cities are central to Peter Sloterdijk: Society is constituted in them, they are what he calls the “meta collection”. But this collection works differently in times of social media. The role of institutions such as city theaters is also changing. Does it still exist, the much-touted “public space” in which the interests of society are publicly negotiated? Can a city theater, like the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, be such a place? And how can architecture helpmake it happen?

After about four years, the renovation of Bernhard Pfau’s architecture-historically important building will be largely completed. A good reason to shed some light on the architect, the peculiarities of the building’s renovation and the tension between modernization and renovation of cultural buildings. The experts involved will reflect on the transformation processes of cultural buildings in the 21st century during a panel discussion.
