Main Station Stuttgart: First column base completed

The first chalice-shaped column for the new station roof takes shape. After the concreting last week, the base of the column was freed of its four custom-made, three-dimensional curved formwork elements with a special device. The result was a column base with a homogeneous surface.

The six-meter-high column base will now receive a shell for protection against rain and wind. The actual chalice can be built as soon as the expected 18th plan amendment will be approved by the Federal Railway Authority. Meanwhile, DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm GmbH is planning the construction of the next base. Parts of the reinforcement framework are already moved. The concrete is expected to flow in August.

The station will become the nucleus of the urban development and an interface between the old and the new city. It will give Stuttgart a much improved link to Europe and, even more, a new centre.
